Amity Township to raise tax rate

The cost of EVERYTHING has increased dramatically in recent years.

We will be raising taxes by 1 mill, making the total 3 mills for the township tax. 1 mill is $100 for every $100,000 in value.

The equipment/vehicles that the township has are aging and will need to be replaced sometime in the very near future. Our township building is also in need of repairs.

We also have our long time Supervisor/Roadmaster/Chairman retiring at the end of 2025. With this, we need to hire another township worker sometime in 2025 so that this person can spend some time with Skip before he leaves us. That is an added expense we just are not able to cover with current funding! Once Skip retires, we will need the decrease in payroll expenses to build up an equipment fund for those dying old trucks!

Another increasing expense for the township is the need to further support the Wattsburg Hose Company. The municipalities that they serve are Amity, Venango and Wattsburg Boro. We as a township are responsible for public safety, however we do not fund the fire department. We need to increase our support to them in our annual budget to assist them in giving our communities quality coverage and care!

We will be voting on the Resolution for the increase at the November 18th meeting.
