New Traffic Light at the Intersection of Cranberry Street and the Bayfront Parkway in the City of Erie Fully Operational
Oil City, PA – The new traffic signal at the intersection of Cranberry Street and the Bayfront Parkway (Route 4034) in the City of Erie is now fully functional for drivers and pedestrians.
It is managed through an omnidirectional detection system that will trigger the light to change only when vehicles are stopped on Cranberry Street. The new system also has countdown pedestrian signal heads, a protected left turn arrow with a flashing yellow phase for westbound traffic on the Bayfront Parkway waiting to turn onto Cranberry Street, and emergency vehicle preemption capabilities.
The work is being done as part of the Cranberry Street Safety Improvement Project, which is focused on improving pedestrian safety and traffic efficiency at the intersection.
Work in 2024 included new ADA curb ramps, sidewalk upgrades, pavement markings, and asphalt paving on Cranberry Street. Along with the traffic signal, work in 2025 will include landscaping in the spring.
The contractor is M&B Services of Clarion, PA. The contract cost is $571,142.
