Hiring Assistant Roadmaster

Amity Township is a Second-Class Township located just southeast of Erie, Pa. The township covers 28.70 sq miles and has 30 miles of roads. We are seeking to fill the position of Assistant Roadmaster. This position will be appointed by the three Amity Township Supervisors, will be supervised by the Amity Township Head Roadmaster and report to the Amity Township Supervisors.

This position:

  • Is a full time, hourly position that will oversee the day-to-day operations of the township including infrastructure, equipment and township property.
  • Must be able to operate all essential equipment.
  • Must have good mechanical repair ability and willingness to learn how to repair all township equipment and vehicles.
  • Responsible for checking road conditions throughout the township.
  • Will assist in ordering supplies for vehicle maintenance, road projects, etc. – while following budgetary constraints.
  • Is a highly visible position within the community that is responsible for implementing policies set by the Amity Township Supervisors.
  • Must be able to interface with not only the township employees but other municipal, county and state leaders.
  • Must be able to interact with township residents and businesses on a professional level while taking into account their needs and concerns and reporting back to the Board of Supervisors.
  • Must attend pertinent workshops and educational programs to complete/renew required certifications.
  • Ensure all safety measures are observed.

The following skills and competencies are requirements of this position:

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and current PA Commercial Driver’s License

The following physical demands are required of this position:

  • Good communication skills – able to hear and speak clearly.
  • Must be able to: lift, bend, sit, stand for periods of time, shovel, rake, sweep, climb stairs and ladders, be able to climb in and out of equipment, climb in and out of ditches, have strength to lift heavy objects.

Employment is contingent upon passing a background check and approval of township supervisors.
